Measuring your Babies Foot Size

Measuring your Babies Foot Size

How to Measure your Baby's Foot

We know how it is; measuring your little ones foot size can be a tricky process - especially if they are wriggling, jiggling, and fidgeting (we know the feeling!). If possible, its best to get a measurement when your little one is standing - the foot is generally a little larger under weight. Below is the best method we have found:

  • Take a measuring tape or ruler and measure from your baby's heel to the tip of their big toe.
  • This length is the approximate insole measurement. The shoe size is generally 1 to 2cm bigger.
  • Don't forgot to measure both feet - it's normal for one foot to be bigger than the other. Use the measurement of the biggest foot when ordering your shoes.

When choosing a shoe size for your little one, remember to leave a little extra room for their foot to grow into - they grow up fast!

How to Make Sure the Fit is Correct

Once the shoe has been delivered, follow the below steps to make sure the fit is perfect for your little one:

  1. Visual Check - the shoe should fit snuggly and not leave any marks on your little ones foot.
  2. Toe Test - the space between the shoe and your baby's big toe should be the approximate width of your little finger to thumb. This is important, as too much room and baby will trip and too little room the shoe will rub.
  3. Finger Test - your little finger should fit between the heel and the back of the shoe (without any extra space for the best fit).
  4. Pinch Test - the material should slightly pinch between your fingers at the widest point of the shoe. If the material does not pinch, the shoe is too tight.

Remember, we are here to help. If your shoe does not fit on the first attempt, you can return it for free.

Choosing the right Shoe

Your little one is starting to explore the world for the first time; its important their shoes live up to the demands of a daring adventurer. Some things to look out for are:

  • Fully adjustable fastenings - as your baby grows into the shoe, adjustable fastenings allow the fit to be adjusted.
  • Lightweight, flexible soles - its important your little one gets the 'feel' of walking. Lightweight, flexible soles allow the foot to move naturally.
  • Padded ankles - allows for extra protection and support when walking.
  • Rubber soles - rubber is a great 'anti-slip' material, which will give your little one extra grip when moving.
  • Comfortable - the most important thing is the shoes are comfortable for your little one. They need to be able to endure long walks, nursery, and much more.
